Barcelo Maya Beach Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico
 Guestrooms are located in five, three-story buildings (without elevators) running toward the beach. Each building has a garden courtyard containing an oversized Mayan-inspired statue. Rooms are cool and comfortable, with textured, cream-colored walls, and red-marble accents (desk top and vanity). Each room has a balcony furnished with two chairs and a small table with views of the resort's lush tropical grounds and gardens. Bathrooms include a tub/shower combination and a scale. Compact refrigerators are stocked daily with beer, soft drinks, and bottled water as part of the All-Inclusive Plan. Standard - Guestrooms offer one king bed or two double beds and accommodate a maximum of four guests. All-Inclusive Plan - Rate includes the following:

 Rooms include Barcelo Maya Beach Resort amenities include Agave - This air-conditioned restaurant requires reservations and specializes in Mexican cuisine. Don Quijote - This air-conditioned Spanish restaurant also requires reservations. Guests staying four-to-six days are entitled to dine here or at Agave one time. Guests staying seven days or longer are entitled to dine once at each restaurant. Buffet Restaurants - These expansive restaurants flank a grand walkway leading to the resort's 2,000-seat Kukulcan Theater. One restaurant is located on the resort's Beach side and the other on the Garden side, though both are open to all guests of the resort. They serve bountiful buffets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Capitan Morgan - Shaded by an enormous palapa near the Garden side's beach and pool, this restaurant serves light food such as burgers, pizza, and salads all day. At night it becomes a disco nightclub, with light food available. Rancho Grande - The Beach side's equivalent of Capitan Morgan, this restaurant also serves light foods and grilled fare all day. Wet Bars - At the edges of their pools, both the Garden and Beach sides have swim-up bars. Room service is available 24 hours, but there is a per-plate charge.

What to expect: Vast and beautifully interspersed with flowering gardens, palm trees, and immaculate grounds, the resort caters to families and couples seeking a full menu of activities and entertainment in addition to sunning and swimming. Amenity highlights: Each side of the resort, Beach and Garden, contains a huge, free form pool. Each pool includes a shallow-water children's section. Sundecks around the pools are enormous, offering uncrowded lounge-chair space. Plentiful hammocks swing under palm trees near the pools. The beach not only runs 1.5 miles long, it runs deep, offering acres of sand fine as sugar and nearly as white. Insider tip: A rock island within easy swimming distance of the resort's dock offers a thatch-roof palapa for solitary contemplation of the Caribbean's majesty and a sweeping view of the resort.
